The Darby Mills Project Bio

'In 1978 Darby Mills embarked on a now 41-year journey of extraordinary crazy adventures. Becoming one of Canada’s iconic female rock vocalists and the voice of 3  “Headpins” releases and then 3 greatest hit cd's that followed.
Darby Mills and the Headpins, released their debut album "Turn It Loud" in 1982.  Selling over 500,000 records and tapes ( OLD SCHOOL)
It topped the charts for six weeks in Canada. The hit singles "Don't It Make Ya Feel "Dancin" a track still played on hundreds of Radio Station around the world. “People” and “Turn It Loud” came to life. In 1982 the Headpins were nominated at the Canadian music awards the Juno's for most promising new act, Darby Presented an award as well that year.
1983 the HEADPINS won the Shure Music Express Awards for
Top New Group and Darby won Top Female Vocalist.

This also being the year Darby met her now husband Brian Wasdsworth co-Manager of the Headpins along with Sam Feldman.

The Headpins second release, one year later. "Line of Fire" was another platinum-plus success with 150,000 in sales.  It included the hit songs "Just One More Time" and "Feel It (Feel My Body)."
In 1984 they released their 3rd and final recording while still together "Head Over Heels" which included the singles “Staying all Night” and
“Be With You.”  150,000 units sold.
This figure is not including sales over the past 20 years.

The Headpins tour schedule landed them on concert stage with
ZZ TOP
, Whitesnake, KISS, Vince Neill, Loverboy, Bryan Adams, Quiet Riot, Nazareth, Nickelback, Eddy Money, Twisted Sister, Pat Benatar, Pat Travers, Ritchie Blackmore and Rainbow and many others.

Those were 5 crazy paced years,  Good times and Big stresses, egos did collide. Early in 1986 Mills was fired as the singer,  the original Headpin line up folded and everyone started out on individual adventures.

Darby however, retained the American record contract with MCA USA and spent time living in LA while getting new material together for her first Solo recording. Darby headed over  to London England where she recorded 6 tracks at EEL PIE Recording Studio, owned by Pete Townshend (the WHO). With producer Greg Walsh of Tina Turner “Private Dancer” fame at the controls. Darby had the pleasure of working along side the likes of Tony Levin of King Crimson and players from such bands as Tina Turner, Santana, Red Seven and more.  6 weeks later Darby returned to Canada and continued to writing more material then was to return to England where she would finish the record.

Unfortunately while in England, MCA USA underwent huge managerial changes.  Mills had returned home from England  to find she NO longer had representation within the offices of MCA. There was a NEW head of A&R and subsequently she was released from her contractual obligations with MCA, USA.
Darby returned home from the trip to LA and shortly there after was released by her management.  Then being served with 500,000 K in Headpins bills.

The next few years got messy!

Sticking to her guns, 1991 Darby with now hubby Brian Wadsworth as her representation, inked a solo deal with Warner Music Canada and released "Never Look Back" which Included the singles “Cry to me” and “Hot Water”
For those efforts Darby was honored with a Juno nomination and an official nomination for the Canadian, WALK OF FAME.

The "Never Look Back" CD sold 35k copies that year and aired across Canada and the UK producing 4 radio single. That number not being enough to keep the Warner Canada  deal alive, once again, 1992 Mills is released from her recording contract and decides to retire on a farm in the Valley...... and have BABIES.

1993.......It didn't take long.
Mills reunited as the VOICE of the Headpins and a new line up of players.

2016, 26 years after re-forming The Headpins and some life altering changes, Mills knew it was NOW or NEVER.
Taking a leap of faith to find the passion she once had Darby closed one door to open another.

In Aug 2016 Darby performed her last show as the voice of the Headpins.

The Darby Mills Project was now the mission. With Brian back as her manager the 2 set out to rebuild Darby's career.
They re-mastered and re-release  "Never Look Back"  calling it
"FLYING SOLO".  Knowing deep down the songs and meanings where as prevalent now as 26 years ago.

Thousands of "Flying Solo" HARD COPY cd's have sold Via her website to Spain, France, Germany, Den Mark, China, Japan, Australia,  USA, and of course Canada.

And most recently was invited to join GENE Simmons on stage for a duet of
