The Darby Mills Project Bio
In 1978 Darby Mills embarked on a now 40-year journey of extraordinary proportions becoming one of Canada’s iconic female rock vocalists and the voice of all 3 “Headpins” releases and the 3 greatest hits to follow!
The Headpins, released their debut album Turn It Loud in 1982, which in record time went double platinum selling over 500,000 records and topped the charts for six weeks, with the hit singles "Don't It Make Ya Feel [Dancin], “People” and “Turn It Loud.” That year the Headpins were nominated for most promising new act at the JUNO’S and in 1983 the band won the Shure Music Express Awards for Top New Group and Darby Mills as Top Female Vocalist. Their second release, Line of Fire, was another platinum-plus success with 150,000 in sales and included the hits "Just One More Time" and "Feel It (Feel My Body)." In 1984 they released their 3rd and final recording Head Over Heels which included the singles “Staying all Night” and “Be With You.” again topping 150,000 units. The band toured with the likes of ZZ TOP, Whitesnake, KISS, Vince Neill, Loverboy, Bryan Adams, Quiet Riot, and many others.
After the original Headpin line up folded in early 1986, Mills went on to pursue a solo career. Signing with MCA USA and headed to London England where she recorded 6 tracks at the fabulous Eel Pie Recording Studio owned by Pete Townshend of the WHO, Producer Greg Walsh of Tina Turner “Private Dancer” fame at the controls. Unfortunately while in England, MCA underwent huge personnel changes. At that point, Mills returned home to find she no longer had representation with in the label and was released from her contractual obligations!
Sticking to her guns In 1991 Mills inked a solo deal with Warner Music and released "Never Look Back" which Included the singles “Cry to me” and “Hot Water” For her efforts she was honored with a Juno nomination and soon after nominated for a star on the Canadian WALK OF FAME. Having sold only 35k of the new CD Mills was once again released from her contract and in 1992 decided to retire on a farm in a Valley............
